In 1966 Cliff Martin opened Surveying Instruments Inc. specializing in Instrument sales and repair for the Central Arkansas market. Noticing the talent, A. Leitz Co. (Sokkia) hired Cliff as a Sales Manager in 1969. From 1969 to 1974 Cliff traveled across the globe installing test equipment and training the distributor network for Leitz. In 1974 Cliff was promoted to National Sales Manager, where he held this position until 1984. Branching out on his own again, Cliff opened Martin Instruments and began servicing Instruments for all the local dealers in Central Arkansas. As time passed and business grew, Bob Butler of Shepard’s Inc. was hired and quickly learned the trade. Together, the Business expanded and the company outgrew 3 locations in 5 years. Cliff’s daughter, Chris, joined the company in 2002, Managing the office and heading up Advertising. As our reputation spread nationwide, Business began growing steadily, and in 2006 Martin Instruments moved to it’s current location at 6519 Murray St. in Little Rock, AR.
Noticing a void in the market with the departure of Shepard’s Inc., Martin Instruments invested in large amounts of Supply Inventory and began selling supplies to the field in the summer of 2009. Quickly Martin Instruments turned the once repair facility into a full blown Instrument sales and supply company. Dewayne Ellison was hired from Custom Direct in October of 2009 to meet the increase in demand in supply inventory. Ironically, with the concentration on the Supply side of the Business, the Repair side grew as well, and turned Martin Instruments into a major supplier and repair facility in the field of surveying and construction equipment.
Recognizing the need to develop a Marketing and Advertising plan, with the development of a strategic directive for the company, David Worley was hired in January of 2010 to further the growth of this Arkansas owned and operated Company.
